The Warrior Code

Warrior Code: Wars Change, Warriors Don’t

“The Spartans do not ask how many are the enemy, but where are they.”

Warrior Code ApparelThe Warrior Code was written for our men and women in uniform, but its utility, I hope, will not be limited to the sphere of literal armed conflict. We all fight wars—in our work, within our families, and abroad in the wider world. Each of us struggles every day to define and defend our sense of purpose and integrity, to justify our existence on the planet and to understand, if only within our own hearts, who we are and what we believe in.

We are all warriors. Do we fight by a code? If so, what is it? What is the Warrior Code? How do we (and how can we) use it and be true to it in our internal and external lives?

You won’t find a definition of the warrior code in a field manual and its description varies whether you are in the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. However, when you enter one of the services of the U.S. military, you willingly live by their version of code. You have to or you risk harming your brothers or sisters in arms. In combat, you live the code to save lives. Whether you are a Marine, Sailor, Ranger, an Airman, a Green Beret or a Navy SEAL, there is one universal principle to the warrior code, leave no one behind.

The Warrior Code embodies certain virtues—courage, honor, loyalty, integrity and selflessness. I will always place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit and NEVER leave a fallen comrade. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.

Warrior Code

The Warrior Code:

Courage
Face my fears, acknowledge them and stand tall facing danger.

Concentration
Invoke the strength of body, mind and spirit.

Honesty
Always be true to myself and stand for virtue.

Humility
Acknowledge weaknesses and never flaunt my strength.

Control
Never abuse that which I have learned and always be aware.

Endurance
Focus and training is my stability. Strong and powerful is my body. My spirit is my drive and I will NEVER quit.

Loyalty
I remain a Patriot to my country and will leave no one behind.

This is the code of the Warrior... Live it. Wear it.
